Momme is the default unit of measure to describe silk. The higher the momme, the thicker the silk is. Most mulberry silk garments on the market are 19 Momme. 1. I am in between sizes: M and L, should I order size M or L?
We recommend that you do not size up because our clothing is loose-cut, as silk does not stretch. Therefore, if you are in between sizes M and L, we suggest ordering size M.
2. What does it mean that your silk is 27 momme?
Momme is a standard measurement that indicates the weight of silk. The higher the momme, the higher the weight, quality and consequently durability. Our artisan mulberry silk is 27 momme, which is over 40% more silk than the 19 momme silk often used for mass-produced silk garments.
3. Why does your silk not need to be dry cleaned?
Our silk is produced using traditional artisan methods dating back to the 9th century, allowing it to be washed like it has been for thousands of years, without the need for dry cleaning and its harsh chemicals.
4. Is it true I can machine-wash this silk? How?
Yes, our thicker 27 momme artisan handmade silk is durable and machine washable. Place it in a laundry mesh bag to protect it from other items, then wash it on delicate or hand wash cycle using a detergent and softener for delicates. Tara recommends washing silk with shampoo and conditioner to maintain its lustre and softness. Simply add 1 tbsp of shampoo and 1 tbsp conditioner to 1 cup of water, add to your washing machine, and wash on a delicate cycle.
5. I really dislike ironing! Will I end up having to constantly iron these silk garments?
Tara and many of us here at Tara Sartoria share your dislike of ironing, and that's precisely why we love silk! Silk's lightness allows body heat to naturally soften and remove wrinkles over time. So, in reality, all you need is a quick steam, or none at all if it's sleepwear. Additionally, washing silk with shampoo and conditioner can result in fewer wrinkles when drying.
6. What is the deal with French seams?
French seams are a high-end finishing method used in haute couture and luxury garments. It takes about twice as long to make the garment and more fabric because the seams are sewn twice. But, the result is a durable garment with a polished appearance inside and out.
7. Can I wear this daily?
Yes, our customers report that our silk items are sturdy and durable, making them suitable for daily wear without concerns about tearing.

    This silk pajama set is 100% silk and is super luxurious. The fabric is extremely soft and the construction is very well done, with excellent quality stitching (using French seams) that clearly has been done with care. These are my new favorite pajamas! They look and feel absolutely wonderful. They are machine washable, which is fantastic so I don't have to mess around with dry cleaning them. Well worth the money! I got the size M based on my 32" pant size and the fit is perfect.

    Love the mission but size options could be better

    I love what this organization's mission sets out to do to give back to the communities they're in. That is a huge huge deal for me. The craftsmanship of this set is nothing short of beautiful. The silk looks and feels great. The shorts have a button fly, sadly no pockets, but not a big deal. The shirt is a button up.While I love everything about the brand and the mission, the one place I have issue is the sizing. You are asked to choose a size based on a men's shirt sizing chart, but you don't get to choose the size of the shorts. I typically wear a Large for shirts, but a Medium for the shorts, according to the vendor's sizing chart as I am a 33/34W waist and a large pair of shorts would be too loose. As a result, I have a pair of shorts that fit perfectly and that I am absolutely happy with, but a shirt that is too small. The shirt is intentionally made baggy for a more comfortable fit for sleeping in, but even that added size isn't enough to keep from pulling tight across my back when I reach forward. Had I ordered the set in my correct shirt size, I would have the opposite problem, a shirt that fits perfectly, but a pair of shorts that are too big to stay on.This could be remedied in one of two ways, allow for choosing size combinations for the shirt and shorts so the customer can get the perfect fit. The second, is to alter the design of the shorts to be a drawstring style so the shorts can be cinched to fit at will.This pajama set is understandably expensive, but difficult to recommend to anyone who isn't focused on spending their money where proceeds go to a good cause and is willing to make do with one part of the set that doesn't fit right. I would love this organization to do well because they want to help their communities, so I hope they see my review and adjust to position their products better.

    I'm not the type that will pay this much for pajamas or cares about silk, I'm a cotton t-shirt guy. But I wanted to see what it was all about. At first I was unimpressed as I had to run a special delicate cycle to wash it in the washing machine in a delicates bag, then hang it to dry. It came out wrinkled and I wasn't about to get a steamer out to make it look nice again, so I wore it to bed after it dried. On the hottest night of the year it kept me a bit cooler though I wouldn't say it was way more comfortable or a life changer. I was gonna go back to wearing t-shirts but then a few nights later my wife started touching my silk shirt and one thing led to another and now I see the benefits! However, overall I'm not planning on buying any other silk given the expense of the item and the special care required. I'll use this on special occasions and enjoy the benefits! The maker of this product includes a nice note about how this product is made in Vietnam by women who appreciate the financial support, and you can definitely see the quality in their work.
